Die Akten des Barnabas: Historische Einordnung und Übersetzung

The article offers an introduction into the late antique Acts of Barnabas as well as a German translation of the source text. The text is placed in the context of the ecclesiopolitical disputes over the independence of the Church of Cyprus and important aspects of its content are discussed for the first time. Unlike writings such as the Acts of Titus or the Martyrdom of Mark, the Acts of Barnabas do not simply offer a legitimizing founding legend of the Church of Cyprus; they are also concerned with locating the Church of Cyprus in a more complex topography of late antique particular churches and linking the preaching of Barnabas as closely as possible to the tradition of Jesus (represented by the Gospel according to Matthew).
