This paper presents the importance of César Franck’s oeuvre through the three periods of his creation, and focuses on the works of his final years, in special on the instrumental and orchestral compositions of the third period. The musical analysis proposes to identify and exemplify a few of the procedures and compositional techniques of César Franck, which define the – on the one hand – the “classical” forms and structure, and – on the other hand – the innovative melodic and harmonic aspects of the musical discourse.References
