Abstract

Franz Liszt is one of the most diverse composers in music history. His faith and devotion to the church always played a central role in his life, as evidenced by his efforts to reform the church and its music. The large-scale, virtuoso works he composed in his youth stand in sharp contrast to his later works, which, with their clarity, reveal a mature personality and a rich, eventful life. The aim of my study is to analyze one of Liszt's most extraordinary late works, the choral piece titled Salve Regina, in light of the composer's relationship with religion and his sacred compositions, presenting his late style as well.
