Jesus's role as a prophet receives little attention in research on the Gospel of Matthew. However, this article aims to demonstrate that the Old Testament intertext Deut 18:15 has a special significance for the interpretation of the person of Jesus in the Gospel of Matthew. To this end, the pericopes of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem (Matthew 21:1–17) and his transfiguration (Matthew 17:1–9) are examined first, before the role of Deuteronomy 18:15 within the Passion is investigated.
