Russkiy Mir: Between Foundational Narrative and Identity Affirmation. This paper examines Russkiy Mir (“Russian world”) as a fluid framework through which Russia constructs and projects its identity. It argues that Russian discourse reframes the conflict in Ukraine as a broader confrontation with the West, using Russkiy Mir as a means of identity reaffirmation. The concept, lacking a fixed definition, combines geographical, cultural, and political dimensions and is linked to the Russian Idea through Nikolai Berdyaev’s thought. It also explores the role of the Russian Orthodox Church, particularly Patriarch Kirill, in legitimizing this civilizational narrative and framing Russian identity in opposition to the West.
