Abstract

Octavian Nemescu (1940-2020) played a decisive role in the emancipation of the avant-garde movement within the Romanian compositional landscape. He may be situated within the second generation of modernist composers, the one that advanced and legitimized postmodernist ideas in the art of sound. The recovery of music’s origins as ritual constitutes the defining element that most accurately encapsulates his entire creative activity.
