Reflections on the Situation of the Church in the Social, Political, and Religious Context of Europe in the 17th–19th Centuries. The study highlights the difficult situation of the Catholic Church after the Peace of Westphalia (1648) with the end of religious military conflicts in Europe. This marked the beginning of the era of confessions and French hegemony, which lasted until 1715. This era was also known as the era of confessional absolutism, represented by the connection between the state and the Church. It should be noted that the unity between Church and State was not questioned. The State provided the Church with the coercive means at its disposal to obtain recognition of religion and respect for its practice.
