Abstract

The present paper aims to analyze how successful leaders develop their competencies, along with the level of interconnection between emotional, cognitive and social competencies. In this context, the main objectives of the study are to analyze their development, as well as to identify interdependent relationships. Through the qualitative methodological framework, the research addresses an in-depth analysis of the development and interconnection of essential dimensions, such as emotional self-awareness, confidence and self-worth, innovative and strategic thinking, the ability to coach others, and inspiration. The results highlight the central role of emotional competence in supporting the other dimensions of leadership. Emotional self-awareness contributes to the development of innovative and strategic thinking by stimulating intuition, authenticity in decision-making and resilience, but also by reducing the influence of the ego. Socially, it facilitates the coaching and the ability to inspire, while self-worth supports a constructive relationship with failure. It was also found that there is an interdependence between cognitive and social competencies, although to a lesser extent. Therefore, given the major influence of emotional competencies on leadership development, it is recommended to integrate them as a central element in training programs.
