Sign of Salvation. Analysis and Commentary on Jn 9: 1-7. The evangelical passage in John, which presents the man blind from birth, has given rise to multiple interpretations over the centuries on which it is necessary to reflect in order to orient our exegetical reading. There are two fundamental lines that the patristic authors present: one that considers the text to be a baptismal catechesis; the other one that considers the passage a Christological event. Without denying the various explanations offered by the authors of the New Testament and those of the later patristic exegesis, our effort will focus on the reading of the mentioned verses, starting from a theology of its own that the author proposes. The results of this analysis demonstrate that this passage has a deep Christological character: the main interest of the evangelist, but also the deepest meaning of the passage in John 9, closely related to the concrete revelation of Jesus as "the light of the world" who, giving the sight to the blind from birth, ignites in him the spark of faith.
