The Holy Land at the beginning of Mamluks rule (1249-1291). The idea of approaching this topic arose from the desire to make available to those interested in the history of the Holy Land a complex of synthetic, clear and coherent knowledge, about one of the lesser known periods: Mamluk rule. This need for knowledge is felt more intensely in the case of pilgrimages, because any pilgrimage also contains an inherent cultural-historical dimension. After a brief presentation of the emergence of the Mamluk caste in the Islamic world in the vicinity of the biblical lands, the article presents the political and religious context of insertion of their regime in the Holy Land (first half of the 13th century) and the early period of their rule, until the fall of the last crusader redoubt.
