Studia Universitatis Babeș‐Bolyai Philologia receives proposals for special-themed issues. Prospective guest editors are invited to submit their Calls for Papers via email to philologia.studia@ubbcluj.ro
Calls for Papers should seek submissions falling within the remit of the journal, in the following
fields: literary studies, literary history and theory, comparative literature, cultural studies, gender
studies, digital humanities, ecocriticism, theoretical and applied linguistics, semiotics, pragmatics,
translation studies, (foreign) language teaching.
Proposed topics should be clearly defined and firmly anchored in their theoretical fields. Calls for
papers should engage with cutting-edge research and generate significant interest among specialists,
in such a way as to secure at least 8 publishable submissions. A special-themed issue will include
8-10 articles complying with the Instructions for Authors, available on the journal’s website.
Studia Universitatis Babeș‐Bolyai Philologia encourages inter-institutional partnerships and
invites teams of guest editors from different universities to propose topics for special-themed
issues. Individual guest editors or teams from the same institution are also welcome to submit
their proposals.
Structure of the Call for Papers:
• Proposal title
• Name, affiliation and email address of the guest editor(s)
• A clearly defined topic and a well-outlined theoretical framework, with emphasis on their
relevance within the research field (400-500 words).
• A list of 5-10 subtopics that canbe explored by interested authors.
• A bibliographical list consisting of at least 5 titles of relevant theoretical and critical
works.
• The language(s) in which submissions are accepted for this issue.
• The deadline(s) and the article selection procedure (if they are any differences from the
journal’s general practice).
Timeline
Proposals for special-themed issues should be submitted to the journal at least 18 months before the publication of the envisaged issue. The editorial board will inform the prospective guest editors of its decision to accept or refuse their proposals within 30 days of receiving the Call forPapers.
Duties of the guest editor(s) and of the editorial team
The guest editor(s) should work closely with the journal’s editor(s) in charge of the special-
themed issue and may require the latter’s assistance at any stage of the editorial process, from
the moment the Call for Papers is launched to the publication of that issue.
The guest editor(s) should disseminate the Call for Papers by inviting renowned scholars to
contribute to the issue and by popularizing it on various relevant academic websites. The Call for
Papers will be featured on the website of Studia Universitatis Babeș‐Bolyai Philologia at least 12
months before the journal issue is due to be published.
The guest editor(s), together with the journal’s editor(s) in charge of the special-themed issue,
will first select the submissions according to their relevance to the topic. Submissions passing the
initial editorial screening will enter the double-blind peer review process. Guest editor(s) will be
responsible for the smooth running of the reviewing process. This will involve the anonymous
evaluation of each submission by 2 external referees (from outside both Babeş-Bolyai University
and the institution to which the author of the ar ticle is affiliated). All correspondence with
reviewers will be done by email. The guest editor(s) will include the journal’s email address
(philologia.studia@ubbcluj.ro) in the CC field. The assessment form (peer review sheet) will
be provided by the journal’s editors. A set of 10 special-themed articles must be evaluated by at
least 5 experts in the field. The editorial board members will supervise and may intervene in the
reviewing process at any time.
The guest editor(s) may also assume, in whole or in part, the group of book reviews in the journal
issue assigned to them. The final decision on the number of reviews and the books to be reviewed
will be taken jointly with the journal’s editor(s).
The journal’s editor(s) will be in charge of the Miscellanea Sections.
The process of guest editing a special issue will be carried out in compliance with all the
provisions of the journal’s Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement.
