This study aimed to examine the mental health of physical education (PE) teachers in relation to their academic qualifications and teaching levels. The study sample comprised 187 PE teachers from the city of Setif, Algeria, during the 2025-2026 academic year, distributed between middle and secondary education levels. The researchers employed the modified SCL-90 scale to evaluate mental health across the seven dimensions. The findings revealed statistically significant differences in reactive sensitivity and phobia between teachers with bachelor’s and master’s degrees, with those possessing master’s degrees exhibiting higher levels. Additionally, secondary school teachers demonstrated higher levels of obsessive-compulsive disorder symptoms than their middle-school counterparts. This study offers recommendations for the development of targeted interventions, professional development programs, and institutional changes to support teachers’ mental health across various career stages and educational settings.
